These pairs must determine if they can adjust their religious beliefs to accommodate their partners or risk breaking up. Forbidden Love has a similar idea to other romance reality shows such as 90 Day Fiancé. Like Forbidden Love, in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise, most partners have to overcome international boundaries, cultural conflicts, and family drama.

Ashley was raised in a white, conservative Catholic family, so getting married to a Muslim man hasn't been easy for her. Mohammad's twin brother had been against their relationship from the start, as he preferred his brother to settle with a Muslim woman.

To make things more complicated, Ashley and Mohammad are already married and share their three-year-old daughter, Roize. However, Mohammad is excited about Ashley converting so she can raise their daughter according to Islamic laws. However, Ashley is worried about their strict code of ethics in the Muslim world, wondering if she and her daughter will cope. Lindsey and Elmer are another interesting couple in Forbidden Love. Elmer, 23, recently left his Amish community and found adjusting to the regular world challenging.

Lindsey, 34, has a lot of preconceived ideas about what she expects from Elmer. She thought Elmer would be a wholesome lover with no wandering eyes. Unfortunately, Lindsey realized being with someone born and raised in the Amish world would be more challenging than she assumed. With a baby on the way, the stakes are very high. Lensa and Kris are the fourth pair featured in Forbidden Love. Kris, 37, is the son of a Pentecostal preacher, whereas Lensa, 32, is Muslim. His father is surprised when Kris falls in love with Lensa, a woman with two failed arranged marriages under her belt.
