Epic has announced the return of Fortnite to iOS in the EU and Android devices worldwide and you can download it right now
After a lengthy legal battle, Fortnite is back on iOS and Android for players in the EU and worldwide respectively – here's everything you need to know.
Fortnite on iOS and Android is a thing again, and you can download it right now. The legal battle between Epic Games, Apple, and Google has resulted in Fortnite coming back to mobile, although the download process is a little complicated. But we'll get into that in a second! With Fortnite back on iOS and Android comes the return of the Epic Games Store to both platforms, which launches with Fortnite (of course), Rocket League Sideswipe, and the all-new Fall Guys for mobile.
Epic says it's working with developers to enable them to launch their titles through the storefront in the future, and is also bringing its own games to independent mobile stores including AltStore PAL today.
As for how to download Fortnite on iOS and Android, in the blog post announcing the news the company isn't shy about trashing Apple and Google, saying, "For now, the process of installing the Epic Games Store on iOS and Android is lengthy due to Apple and Google introducing intentionally poor-quality install experiences laden by multiple steps, confusing device settings, and scare screens."
Epic adds that it is "continuing to fight in courts and work with regulators around the globe to eliminate the anticompetitive terms that Apple and Google impose on developers and consumers, so we can build a better store for everyone."
In the meantime, Fortnite mobile players can earn themselves a free Katalina Outfit between now and the next update in November. You can unlock Katalina by completing Fortnite mobile quests as well as other Katalina cosmetics which we've detailed underneath the download instructions below.
With that out of the way, here's everything you need to know about how to download Fortnite on iOS and Android.
How to download Fortnite on iOS (EU only)
If you're wondering how to download Fortnite on iOS, first off, this is for players in the EU only. Unfortunately, Fortnite iOS isn't available in other regions for now. We've got the instructions for how to download Fortnite on iOS below as well as a handy video.
- Open Safari and head to epic.download
- Hit 'install on iOS' which will prompt a pop-up message about app installation
- Hit 'okay'
- Open your iPhone settings
- Select 'Allow Apps from Epic Games inc'
- Choose 'allow'
- Return to your browser
- The screen will now present you with an 'install' option so select this
- A pop-up will ask if you want to install the Epic Games Store
- Select 'install App Marketplace'
After all of that, the Epic Games Store app will now be installed on your iPhone. Open it up, pick whichever games you'd like to play, and install them just like you would in any other app store. You'll get another pop-up asking for confirmation when you do this, so click 'install app' to get Fortnite on iOS (or any of the other titles you'd like).
How to download Fortnite on Android (worldwide)
Fortnite is on Android worldwide so anyone can download and install the game on their Android phone. We've included the video below as well as the instructions for how to install Fortnite on Android.
- Open Chrome and head to epic.download
- Hit 'install on Android' which will prompt a pop-up message about installing the Epic Games Store
- Another pop-up will appear warning you the file might be harmful. It's not
- Hit 'download anyway'
- The file will download and you'll see confirmation onscreen along with an 'open' option
- Hit 'open' to install
- If you get a pop-up security message open settings
- Toggle 'allow from this source' to on
- A pop-up asking if you want to install the Epic Games Store will appear
- Hit 'install' and when it's done select 'open' the Epic Games Store
The Epic Games Store will launch and from here you can select the games you want to install. When you download Fortnite on Android (or the first title you choose from the store) you'll get another pop-up. Follow the instructions below.
- A pop-up saying your device isn't set up to install apps from this source will appear
- Open settings
- Toggle 'allow from this source' to on
- You'll be asked to confirm the install again
This won't happen for future Epic Games Store downloads so that's a relief. As Epic says, this is a bit of a faff, but for players who have been looking forward to the return of Fortnite on iOS and Android, it's not too big of an ask.
Fortnite mobile Katalina skin
From now until November's update 32..00 Fortnite iOS and Android players can unlock the Katalina Outfit and cosmetics by completing quests as detailed in the blog post.
- Earn 25,000 XP to unlock the Tactical Kat Wrap.
- Earn 50,000 XP to unlock the Kat Claws Pickaxe.
- Earn 75,000 XP to unlock the Katalina's Kit Bag Back Bling.
- Earn 100,000 XP to unlock the Katalina Outfit.
These aren't exclusive and will appear in the Item Shop at a later date.
